What should you do before sunset?

How should you react when the hunt begins?

Stay together, stop opening new branches, and use the last confirmed landmark as your navigation anchor. If the route is uncertain, choose the safest visible return rather than searching for a better reward.

Does defeating the hunter end the contract?

The official description makes earning money and paying the debt the objective. It does not state that killing the monster is required to win.
